By Evelyne Ongogo
I won’t keep words that harm
Nor sneers that hurt
I won’t carry a tool of despise
Nor attend a school of spite
I haven’t a space for hatred
For hating is all but heavy load
I won’t keep tales that break
Nor words that freak
I won’t sing songs of poison
Nor write letters of destruction
For writing letters of doom
Only makes me age with gloom
I want to be calm
Till my lot in abundance come
I want to keep my staid
And bear a big smile instead
Let my foes keep aside
For within me peace abides
But I won’t know if I’m weak
For I hate not to forgive
Let me forgive
If that makes me wiser
Let me laugh if it makes me happier
For such is what makes life lighter
