THE GREAT ‘HOPPER
Let the rains fall We shall sow Let the seeds sprout We shall harvest The hopper perches On the twigs again.

THE GREAT ‘HOPPER

By Everlyn Ongogo; Kakamega, Kenya.

The rock
For three paird moons
Rolled
As we rolled on
With our daily chores

The seasons
Fairly fair
We ironically enjoyed
The solitude
When we mourned
Our partying moments lost

Then we forgot
The lots bestowed in us
To teach and to model
Spe and make
A fair society

Then like a pounce
On a innocent ‘hopper
The hummer landed
On our heads
While still asleep

Who prepares a ‘hopper
For a pounce?
Who cares if yesterday
It had a brok’n limb?
Really who cares?

A great ‘hopper
Is an always ready ‘hopper
A grate hopper
comes from the king
First hopping is a kingly calling!

So we collect every piece
Of ourselves
And pack it together
In one brain
once burdened
With comfort of absence

Let the rains fall
We shall sow
Let the seeds sprout
We shall harvest

The hopper perches
On the twigs again.
